Volunteer Spotlight: Alissa Bartlett

May 17, 2020 1:00PM

Everything that AMA Minnesota offers would not be possible without the amazing work of our volunteers. Often their work is done behind the scenes. To thank our volunteers and bring their efforts to light, we regularly showcase them in a Volunteer Spotlight.

Meet Alissa Bartlett, AMA MN VP, Volunteer & Talent Acquisition!

Volunteer Since: January 2019

Job Title: Account Executive

Company: Improving – Twin Cities

1. Why did you decide to become a volunteer with AMA MN?

After attending AMA events for a year – and being quite pleased with the content of the programming as well as the people I was meeting – I wanted to deepen my involvement with AMA by helping with the running of the organization.

2. What do you enjoy most about being a board member for your committee?

In my role as VP, Volunteers, I get to help people take full advantage of all that AMA has to offer: learning/sharpening marketing skills, networking, and developing leadership skills, to name a few. I enjoy that through the Volunteer Intake Questionnaire I get to learn a lot about people, and then match them with an opportunity that will be the best fit.

3. Why is being a volunteer with AMA MN important to you?

I tend to get more out of an organization the more I put into it. Being on the board has given me the opportunity to shape the organization, making it more relevant for local marketers. I also get to work with a team of rock star leaders, all of whom I genuinely enjoy spending time with.

4. What’s the one thing you wish others knew about volunteering with AMA MN? What makes it unique?

AMA volunteers get exposure to many different aspects of marketing as well as running a business.

5. What is some of the best advice you've received in your career?

Always take the meeting – you never know where it will lead!

6. Besides volunteering, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Hanging out with my husband and three kids doesn’t leave a whole lot of “free” time, but we are very active in our Unitarian Universalist church, engaging in spiritual development and social justice outreach programs. I also enjoy being outside, mostly by taking walks around the lake near our house.
