Board Nominations

AMA Minnesota is seeking nominations for individuals to serve on the Board of Directors. If you are interested in getting more involved with the local marketing community, we encourage you to fill out the application and submit it with a copy of your resume via email to office@amaminnesota.org. A nomination committee will carefully consider each application.

Board terms are one, two or three years, depending on the role. Anyone elected to the board must be (or become) a member of AMA. Channel your passion and serve on the AMA Minnesota Board of Directors. Board members:

  • Influence the direction of AMA MN
  • Acquire new leadership skills
  • Network with other marketing professionals

Applications are currently being accepted through Monday, January 21st for the following positions:

President-Elect

The President-Elect's year is used to learn about the overall operation of the Chapter and to begin planning for the Presidency. The President-Elect automatically becomes President at the end of the year following his/her election as President-Elect. 


•    Attend the AMA Leadership Summit.
•    Assume the responsibilities of the President in his/her absence or incapacity to serve.
•    Coordinate and direct the activities of committees on behalf of the President.
•    Recruit members 
•    Handle other assignments or special projects as directed by the President or by the Board.
•    Begin planning for his/her term as President.
•    Plan the June Board Retreat to kick-off the next chapter year.
•    Work with President to collect and compile information for Chapter Excellence Awards submission. 
•    Assume the responsibilities common to all Officers and Directors.

Recommended Qualifications:
•    Minimum of two years Board experience before becoming President-Elect. 
•    Successful track record of building and leading a team. 

AVP of Membership 

The AVP of Membership will assist the VP of Membership with the development of a plan to drive member retention and acquisition and will see that it is executed accordingly.

•    Develops marketing campaigns for AMA membership drives.
•    Conducts membership surveys.   
•    Follows up on leads, holds recruiting efforts through chapter programs, and develops recruiting materials.
•    Recruits companies for the AMA group membership.
•    Educates Board members on AMA value proposition.
•    Manages chapter data including member and prospect lists, sharing with other Board members as appropriate.
•    Ensures the Membership Committee is meeting the requirements for the CEA awards submission. 
•    Assumes responsibilities common to all officers and directors

VP of Programming

The VP of Programs, reporting to the President, is responsible for developing, implementing and executing the chapter's overall monthly program strategy aligning with the budget, as well as managing and leading a committee to implement all programs and special events.

Duties: 

•    Develops and implements chapter monthly program plan and budget.
•    Plans monthly programs including recruiting speakers and all details to ensure a successful program.
•    Recruits and interfaces with monthly speakers, who are required to be senior marketing leaders with a particular expertise, to ensure successful programs.
•    Manages programs committee, as well as recruiting volunteers, to ensure all logistics are handled according to best practices in event planning to ensure successful programs. 
•    Works collaboratively with VP of Sponsorship (or committee designee) on program sponsorship needs, as well as ensuring companies sponsoring program are supported with items detailed in their agreement.
•    Collaborates with VP of Communications and VP of Membership to ensure all program communications are delivered and executed.
•    Negotiates with all vendors to ensure the organization is paying competitive, group or non-profit rates.
•    In conjunction with other teams, optimally positions and promotes event to ensure organization meets attendance and financial goals.
•    Creates a succession plan for VP position, as well as any other programs documentation.
•    Keeps President and President-Elect informed on programs and any other necessary committee updates.
•    Monitors and tracks committee budget.

Assumes the following responsibilities during the program year:

•    Attends chapter programs and events.
•    Attends monthly board meetings.
•    Oversees volunteer committee who assists with function of programming.
•    Provides monthly board report and dashboard numbers to President-Elect before each board meeting.

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Active chapter membership (required).
•    Degree in marketing, advertising, communications or related professional experience.
•    Experience negotiating and implementing high profile events.
•    Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
•    Successful track record of building, motivating and managing a committee.
•    Ability to work cross-functionally, coordinating across a large, dynamic organization with multiple board members and committees.

AVP of Programming

The AVP of Programming assists the VP of Programming, and is responsible for developing, implementing and executing the chapter's overall monthly program strategy aligning with the budget.

•    Plans monthly programs including recruiting speakers and all details to ensure a successful program.
•    Recruits and interfaces with monthly speakers, who are required to be senior marketing leaders with a particular expertise, to ensure successful programs.
•    Manages programs committee, as well as recruiting volunteers, to ensure all logistics are handled according to best practices in event planning to ensure successful programs. Specifics of event: must be locked in a minimum of 60 days in advance (venue in place; announcement finalized, on website and turned over to Communications Committee).
•    Works collaboratively with VP of Sponsorship (or committee designee) on program sponsorship needs, as well as ensuring companies sponsoring program are supported with items detailed in their agreement.
•    Collaborates with VP of Communications and VP of Membership to ensure all program communications are delivered and executed according to communications and programs timeline and ensure events are widely publicized through all channels.
•    Negotiates with all vendors to ensure the organization is paying competitive, group or non-profit rates.
•    In conjunction with other teams, optimally positions and promotes event to ensure organization meets attendance and financial goals.
•    Keeps President and President-Elect informed on programs and any other necessary committee updates.
•    Monitors and tracks committee budget.

AVP of Marketing Communications

The AVP of Marketing Communications is responsible for assisting the VP Marcom in all marketing communications functions for the MN AMA including: chapter brand identity, the website, email, print collateral, direct mail, social media, public relations, and job board. They will direct and manage a team of professionals to develop and implement a marketing plan that enhances its members overall chapter experience and that leads to their professional and personal growth in the field of marketing and encourages prospects to attend events and become members.

•    Work with VP Marcom to determine strategy, goals and tactics for Marcom committee.
•    Work with VP Marcom to create and maintain Marcom budget. 
•    Collaborate with other board committees to effectively communicate with members and potential member about the organization.
•    Recruit and help manage marketing communications volunteers. 
•    Work with VP Marcom on additional responsibilities, such as, but not limited to preparation and delivery of monthly board report, CEA reporting, maintenance of Marcom procedure documents. 

AVP of Volunteers

  • Help VP of Volunteers to recruit and engage with potential volunteers to define and place them with appropriate opportunities.
  • Assist in planning volunteer events and engagement activities.
  • Work with committees and volunteers to fill needs and ensure engagement.
