2016 – 2017 Collegiate Fall Grant Recipients

April 02, 2017

In the fall of 2016, AMA Minnesota offered a grant application to all collegiate AMA chapters in Minnesota. The grant would serve as additional funding for each chapter to put towards a chapter initiative of their choice. Initiatives included executing professional development events, funds for the AMA International Collegiate Conference, a Regional AMA Conference, or decreasing their membership dues. The three chapters that were chosen to receive the funding are St. Cloud State University, the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University, and Southwest Minnesota State University. We look forward to the success these chapters achieve!

Chapter: St. Cloud State University, Husky AMA

Our chapter is always on the pursuit to boost membership and retention rates. This year, our slogan has been “Leading the Pack and Chasing Success”. We have strived to instill this statement into our term as executive board members and would like to use this grant money to grow membership numbers in diversity and give the opportunity for our members to develop themselves professionally outside the class and our general meetings. Providing corporate tours can be beneficial in terms of communicating with a future employer. Over three-fourths of our members are in the stage of their college careers where they are beginning to look at internships and jobs after graduation. Providing them with the ability to attend corporate tours gives insights that many students do not receive. Thank you, AMA Minnesota, for this grant to our organization, because of you we can assist our members to connect, learn, and grow more.

When we received the news that we would be getting the $350 grant from AMA Minnesota we were over joyed. We are excited to announce that all the money will be going to helping students pay for their AMA memberships! We will be offering this money to about 17 students (about $20 would go to each person’s membership, then they would pay the remaining balance of $32 for their memberships). To decide who will be getting this money we will be holding a case competition within the club at one of our meetings. We will also factor in our point system and people’s commitment thus far this year. Thanks to AMA Minnesota our members will now be able to fully utilize the American Marketing Associations tools!

With this extra funding, we are planning on competing in the case competition and are also hoping to bring additional members to the International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans to participate in other competitions while experiencing the conference through workshops and presentations. This is an opportunity to foster and build relationships with other collegiate members and interview with potential employers. We discussed the benefits of attending the conference at every meeting leading up to the conference and encouraged our chapter members to attend and participate in the case competition, sales competition and perfect pitch competition.
