AMA Minnesota Collegiate Chapter Update: Southwest Minnesota State University

December 11, 2017 6:00PM

The Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) American Marketing Association Chapter, located in Marshall, MN, traveled to Aurora University in Illinois to attend Aurora’s Regional AMA conference in October. Several businesses attended the conference, including Fastenal, Northwestern Mutual, and Organic Valley, to name a few. SMSU AMA had ten members attend the conference and compete in the marketing strategy, personal branding, and sales competitions.

The marketing strategy competition was sponsored by Organic Valley. The goal was to provide a strategy for the company to advertise a specific product and idea. For the personal branding competition, sponsored by Fastenal, each member had 90 seconds to present to the company about why they should hire them. One of the biggest highlights of this trip was having our Chapter President get fourth place in the personal branding competition. There were around 80 students that competed. The sales competition was sponsored by Cintas. Members gave a 10- minute mock presentation on Cintas products. The Cintas sales representative was selling to a fitness facility focusing on cleanliness of their facility. Throughout the day we listened to a few keynote speakers about their businesses and attended sessions with various professional speakers. Being able to attend AMA regional and national conferences to build professional development and compete against prestigious schools is a huge accomplishment for the SMSU AMA Chapter.

From the AMA Minnesota Board of Directors – congratulations to the SMSU Chapter and those who competed and placed in the competition! #AMAzing
