Your AMA Minnesota Board of Directors is here FOR you!

November 15, 2017 10:42PM

AMA Minnesota reaches a significant milestone this year: its 75th anniversary. As Michael Wiener, the President of the Board of Directors, noted in a previous blog post, our chapter has achieved a lot over those years - and that’s because of its members.

AMA Minnesota has a volunteer Board leading the committees that make AMA events and programming possible. Programming, Volunteers, Sponsorship, Membership, Marketing/Communications, Finance, Research & Strategy, and Collegiate Relations all play a role in shaping the organization. But you as a member of this organization play an even more important role. Quite simply, there is no AMA Minnesota if there are no engaged members.

“Members will find the Board of Directors’ photos and bios on the website, and that’s a great way members can get to know us. But frankly what needs to happen is for us to get to know you,” Michael notes. “We need to be hearing—formally and informally—from our members. What do you value about membership? How can the association help further your career? How can we engage our existing members and the larger Minnesota marketing community?”

“We want AMA Minnesota events to be ‘destination events,’” remarks Claire Berge, Programming VP. “Not every event will appeal to every member—that’s not the goal. The goal is to have the right mix of events that provide our diverse membership with value. But we don’t want to guess or assume what you value; we want to hear directly from you! If you attend an event, complete the follow-up survey we send by email. Or, if you’ve got an idea for an event or a topic, or an improvement, let me or Paige, the Programming AVP, know.”

Jenna Mushro, Membership VP, adds “The social time at programming events is a great time to find one of the Board members and share your thoughts. Look for the “Board of Directors” ribbon on the name tags and please introduce yourself! I would also really encourage members to invite a non-member colleague or friend along to events. The chapter’s events are highly discounted for AMA members, however, many are also inexpensive for non-members to attend. Some events, such as our “Marketers Anonymous” gatherings, are even free. We want to hear from non-members, too, about what they are looking for in a must-join marketing organization. After all, there is strength in numbers: As membership grows, so will the benefits of membership for every one of us.”

Everyone on the Board of Directors hopes to hear from you in the coming year, whether through survey responses, conversations at programming events, or thoughts shared via email: office@amaminnesota.orgThis is your organization. The Board is here FOR you, so let them hear FROM you.

On that note, Paula Wright, Director at Large for Volunteers, adds: "Or better yet, get involved! You can contact us at the same email to volunteer!
