Volunteer Spotlight Katie Mullaney

September 10, 2015

Everything the MN AMA offers would not be possible without the amazing work of our volunteers. A lot of the work is done behind the scenes and out of sight. To thank our volunteers and to showcase their hard work, we have a monthly Volunteer Spotlight feature.

How did you get involved as a volunteer with the MN AMA?
A few of my coworkers had gotten involved and had great things to say about the organization. I'm always looking to learn new tricks and meet new people, so the Programming Committee seemed like the place for me.

What do you enjoy about volunteering with the MN AMA?
The people who take their time to participate in the MN AMA are really dedicated to building a marketing community in Minnesota, and I enjoy getting their unique perspectives on the industry. If you want to meet some of the smartest marketers out there, volunteer with the MN AMA.

Tell us about your day job.
I work as a Marketing Manager for UnitedHealthcare Community & State, and I'm coming up on my one year anniversary. Other than working with an absolutely fantastic team, what makes my job great is that I really feel like I'm making a difference - every day I help connect under-served populations with healthcare that can change their lives.

What is your favorite professional or personal development book or blog?
Honestly, I love Strengthsfinder - I feel like it really does accurately identify each person's strengths and it's so interesting to hear what other people's results were. It helps me figure out how to best approach different personality types so we can work together as a cohesive team.

Where did you go on your last vacation?
The Kenai Peninsula of Alaska

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Right now I'd have to say super-strength, because we're working on a heinous project in our backyard and I am a complete liability with puny arms.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working or volunteering?
Camping with my husband and my dog. Or really doing anything that involves hanging out with my dog (sorry, husband).

Thanks for all of your hard work, Katie!
