AMA Minnesota Collegiate Chapter Update: College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University

October 05, 2016

Editor's Note: Each month, AMA Minnesota features a monthly blog post on the AMA collegiate chapters in Minnesota. Each month will give one chapter the opportunity to write content on an upcoming event they’re executing, a spotlight of their Executive Board, a regional or national conference their chapter attended, or an award that their chapter has won. We’re excited to see what the chapters have in store for the upcoming year!

Engaging with Students at CSBSJU

With the beginning of the semester now underway we here at CSBSJU AMA have been hard at work! Our year started out with an on campus involvement fair where we try to gain new members for our club. At this event we tried to engage the students by having them fill out a punch card which incorporated them attending six different business booths. Once the students had the punch card filled out they came to our booth last to learn about our club and be awarded with the prize of a goldfish! Along with handing out free fish we distributed a number of flyers and other information on AMA MN! It was such a successful event for us that we had over 45 students attend our first meeting. Our membership is up 300% from two years ago!

Coming this month our AMA chapter has been working hard to create the best “Marketing Week” our chapter has had. In the past our chapter has missed the mark to make this an event for students to remember. To accomplish a better turnout and increase membership we have been looking to other clubs to see what events have worked for them, revamping some of our old events, and replacing them with new events. We plan to work closely with other organizations to make this event bigger on our campus. Our main goal this year for our event is not only to make this a week for people to remember but to increase our club engagement. Some of the fun activities we have currently planned for the week are a dodgeball tournament and a Buffalo Wild Wings night.

Some other things our AMA chapter looks forward to this year is marketing ourselves to the students and outlying communities as a place for them to go to with different marketing ideas. We have had successful partnerships in the past with St. Jude Medical and Lateralus. This year we plan to increase our partnerships and offer students more internships. Overall, our chapter is really starting to take off and we are so stoked to see what this year brings!
